Snowball fights, skiing, and riding horses in sledge are winter activities in Russia. In August 2024, Moscow will have temperatures around 23-25 degrees Celsius. We’ve compiled a list of 5 places you must visit in Moscow in August.
Bolshoi Theatre
August marks the end of the theatre season, and the performers go on vacation. So, there are only three dates (August 2, 3, 4) to see Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake” at the Bolshoi Theatre. Tickets can be purchased here
Moscow Zoo
If you’re traveling with children, we recommend visiting the Moscow Zoo. Pandas, wolves, polar bears, monkeys, raccoons… over 1000 species of animals. You can check the animal feeding times on the website. Visit at 9 AM on weekdays to get a better view of the animals and avoid entrance queues. You can buy water and snacks on the zoo grounds. Tickets can be purchased here. The site is not available in English, so you may need to use Google Translate or contact us via WhatsApp to make a booking.
Bear Photo Opportunity
A bear with a balalaika is often associated with Russia. If you want photos with a bear, we know friendly bears Tom and Vasily. They are tame, and you can take photos with them in traditional Russian clothing. You can book a photoshoot here
Red Square
It’s beautiful at any time of the year, but it can still be hot in August, so don’t forget a hat and buy the tastiest ice cream at GUM (a store on Red Square). There are two different ice cream shops there: you should buy from the one with the GUM sign—1st line, near the entrance from Nikolskaya Street.
